In neurological disorders, movement abnormalities analysis such as gait analysis needs sometimes to use some complementary tools such as dynamic EMG.Clinical examination remains essential but is not always sufficient to explain the role of the different muscles and their timing of contractions as is the case in co-contractions. Only the dynamic EMG can in this case help to understand the abnormal activation of the muscles. These abnormalities may manifest itself in different ways: premature, continuous, inversed contractions etc
Knowledge of these abnormal patterns may help to improve the decision about the muscles to be treated with botulinum toxin injections or to choose the tendons that can be transferred to improve function.
The objectives of this workshop are:
- Acquisition of EMG signal. Location of the electrodes on the most frequently recorded muscles. How To reduce the risk of cross talk
- Material, Filters
- Indications of dynamic EMG
- Impact on the therapeutic strategy with illustration through clinical cases
