Ethics and handicap: access to healthcare
Chairperson : Pr. Alain YELNIK
Moderators : Pr. Olivier RODAT, Dr. André MORIN
Severely disabling situations led quite recently to reactivated ethical debates that came to a law about healthcare limitation which will be reported at this session opening. Is this law applied in a different way in acute healthcare departments, such intensive care units, and Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) departments? At the same time, how is perceived their own quality of life by severely disabled people and what may offer our healthcare system, and notably PRM, as a support for everyday life? Access to healthcare is also a central question in optimizing these patients’ health : the public hearing coordinated in October 2008 by the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS) will also be reported and presentations will illustrate the perception of access to healthcare and its evaluation as viewed by patients and family carers.
