Chairperson : Pr. Brigitte PERROUIN-VERBE
Moderators : Pr. Thomas SIMILOWSKI, Dr. Joanna ROME-SAULNIER
The AFIGAP (French Speaking Society of Paraplegia) joins the SOFMER for the organization of this session concerning the ventilatory disorders of high tetraplegics. The aim of this session is to allow the practitioners of physical medicine to have a better understanding and management of these disorders.
The physiological bases of the respiratory impairment will be exposed. The initial intensive care will be treated with the indications for the tracheotomy, the indications of assisted ventilation, the weaning of ventilatory support. A special focus will be done on the problem of the high tetraplegias with respiratory dependence, by approaching their care within a unit of PMR (spinal unit) and on the alternatives of the ventilation, as the phrenic stimulation which is a validated technique or experimental one as the techniques of diaphragmatic reinnervation.
