Spinal cord repair and basic research in neurological diseases
Chairperson : Dr. Florence PERRIN
Moderators : Pr. John STEEVES, Pr. Brigitte PERROUIN-VERBE, Dr. Thierry ALBERT
The Partnership AFIGAP (French Speaking Society of Paraplegia), IRME (French Spinal cord and Brain research Institute), SOFMER (French PMR Society) has allowed the organization of this session devoted to research into new spinal cord injuries therapies, and also to the knowledge of an advanced pathophysiology of the multiple sclerosis. This session will include two lectures by the Professor John Steeves ( Vancouver, Icord) : one focused on the meaningful outcome measures to be used during spinal cord injury (SCI) clinical trials for the evaluation of a therapeutic intervention, the second one on the current clinical trials and the prospects for the future. These two review lectures will be followed by two communications focused on the effects of cells transplantation, stem cells ( Florence Perrin) and Olfactory ensheathing cells ( Patrick Gauthier). Lastly, an update on the pathophysiology of the mutiple sclerosis will be given ( Dr Laplaud). The aim of this session is to improve the knowledge of clinicians in the fields of spinal cord repair and the pathophysiology of MS.
