PALAIS DES CONGRES - PARC CHANOT
Description of the Palais des Congrès - Parc Chanot
http://www.parc-chanot.com/
Palais des Congrès, Parc Chanot, Marseille, France
Located on the Mediterranean Sea, Marseille is the largest city of South of France. It was founded 6 centuries BC by the Greeks and is the capital of the famous region of Provence. This area has fascinated artists like the impressionists such as Cezanne born in Aix-en-Provence and Van Gogh who lived in Saint Remy.
Air flights connect directly Marseille to major European cities (Amsterdam, Basel, Barcelona, Berlin, Bruxels, Frankfurt, Lisbon, London, Milan, Munich, Rome, to name a few) and others hourly via Paris. The TGV (High speed train) brings Marseille 3 hours from Paris.
The Palais des Congrès, where the congress will be held is located in a Parc within the centre of the city and is at 33km from the Airport. Shuttle buses connect the airport to the city every 20 minutes.
Parc Chanot, which owes its name to Amable Chanot, mayor of Marseille in 1902, has always been accomodating the great manifestations of the city since the colonials exhibitions of the beginning of the XXth century. The 18 hectares of the parc allow a great adaptation to the various events which proceed there, like the International Fair, conferences, exhibitions, Motor-show... Six rooms of commissions and two rooms general-purpose, a convention Centre and a Centre of the Arts are at the disposal of the visitors.
Large parking and quality catering are available on the premises. A wide range of hotels are within walking distance. A subway (Metro) network with a station at Palais des Congrès facilitates circulation within the city.

The Palais du Pharo : Built by the Parisian architect Lefuel, it is a genuine waterside residence that was presented to Napoleon III by the City of Marseille. |
| The Château d'If : Originally built as a fortress under François 1st in 1524 before it was turned into a state prison in the 17th Century. The château became famous through "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas. |

|
The Saint-Nicholas Fort : A star-shaped fort built in 1680 by the Chevalier de Clerville according to instructions from Louis XIV. The fort was built so that the King could keep an eye on the city. |
Notre-Dame De La Garde Basilica :
A chapel has existed on top of the Garde hill since 1214. It was surrounded by a fort in 1536 after having been extended a number of times throughout the centuries to accommodate the increasing numbers of pilgrims. It was reopened in 1807 after being badly damaged in the Revolution. |
|
| It was replaced by the present church in 1853. It is the work of the architect Henri Espérandieu and is a masterpiece of Byzantine-influenced polychrome building. When Espérandieu died Henri Revoil completed the church with a wonderful mosaic decoration. |
