Aim: On the basis of six different institutional case studies presented by university leaders working in different contexts across Europe, the objective is to discuss how to establish strategic priorities at local level and how to articulate these priorities with the need to also work at European and international level.

Aim: This session will examine issues of university governance and leadership, links to the local community, and regional partnerships. The group chairs will remain the same, and discussions will begin with a presentation by the rapporteur of the conclusions of the previous day's discussions.

There will be two groups looking at each of the following three broad themes:

  1. Gaining external and internal support: the involvement of external stakeholders in university decision making processes, instruments and incentives to motivate the academic community (WG 1.a. will be held in French)

  2. Responding to specific local needs: striking a balance between basic and applied research, using universities resources as a community asset
